Leg swelling

Leaky valves in veins that allow blood to flow back from the heart to the leg are a common cause of leg swelling. Another possibility is problems in special drainage vessels called lymphatics which take fluid back from the legs to the heart. Lymphatics can be damaged after infection, medical problems or surgery. Both venous and lymphatic conditions can be assessed and treated successfully in our clinic.

  • If the problem is due to leaky veins, then (just like for varicose veins) these faulty veins can be removed.
  • Compression stockings: this helps control swelling and pain
